MARLBOROUGH Juniors (MADJA) registered successes at recent major pentathlon and heptathlon events.
Ben Davies (U15), Lucy Averill (U20), Chris Claydon (U20), Hannah Claydon (U17), and Hannah Thompson (U20) represented Wiltshire in the English Schools Multi-Events championships at Exeter.
To qualify, athletes had to succeed at county level, and then be in the top six in a South West competition.
Top MADJA performers were Averill who came 12th with 3735 points and Davies who came 17th with 2443 pts.
Davies was outstanding in his first major pentathlon in the U15 boys category.
He ran 13.3 seconds for his sprint hurdles, threw 11.31metres for the shot putt, achieved 1.65m and 5.04 in the high and long jumps respectively and ran 2.22 min for 800m.
Claydon finished 22nd in his decathlon, Thompson 25th and Claydon 29th.
The following weekend at Exeter, three of MADJA’s U13 athletes had their first major pentathlon experience at the Exeter Harriers open Pentathlon meeting.
Joe Williamson won the U13 boys category with 1510 points and Alex Painting was second. In the U13 girls, Amy Cooper came fourth with 2191.
MADJA now has four athletes ranked in the UK top 30. Davies is at 28, Averill 20, Williamson 8 and Cooper 10.
