Speedway: Table-topping Swindon Robins manager Alun Rossiter says his current crop of youngsters are possibly the best team he has ever had.

League rule changes forced the break-up of his experienced line-up that finished runners-up last season.

But Rossiter's new young guns have taken the Elite League by storm this term as they sit top of the table by four points after ten meetings.

And Rossiter said: "People didn't give us a cat in hell's chance before the season started but we've seriously raised the bar,we're expected to win almost every meeting now.

"It's certainly one of the best teams, possibly the best, I've had in the five years I've been team manager.

"They're younger, hungrier and they don't let their heads drop.

"They are certainly battlers and they don't seem to be fazed by anything."

The Robins are top despite two successive defeats over the Bank Holiday Weekend to Eastbourne and Poole.

But Rossiter is confident they will get back on track in their next three games, and he has pinpointed the trip to Belle Vue on Monday as a must-win game.

He said: "If we carry on the way we're going we've got a great chance of making the top two at the end of the season.

"But we've got a big home fixtures against Coventry on Thursday before an even bigger fixture at Belle Vue on Monday.

"If we can win there the six points for an away win could put us clear at the top of the league.

"We've benefited from two away wins already to get where we are and we need to win that one too."
