Rugby: Ian Davies has been appointed the new head coach at Devizes RFC.

Davies has been coaching in Germany for the past few years and is now living in Corsham. As a level 4 coach, Davies also has wide playing experience as a front row forward with Bath, Newcastle and Plymouth Albion and at County level with Somerset, Northumberland and Cornwall.

He is also a RFU Tutor and Tutor Assessor and Referee Assessor.

Chair of the Interview Panel and Vice Chairman of Devizes RFC Rob Edwards said: "Ian will bring a wealth of experience to the Club to lead its quest back into Southern Counties league status.

"I am sure that Ian will bring innovation into the coaching programme and challenge the players under his direction".

Davies said: "I know it was a huge disappointment to the club being relegated but I am sure Devizes are good enough to get back into Southern Counties and be a leading club.

"I have a passion for rugby and am very positive about the challenge ahead of me, my coaching team, the players and all those associated with the club.

I also have a strong team ethic and know what can be achieved where all elements pull together. I am knocked out with the facilities at the Club and am impressed how the new Committee has set out its stall to rebuild the fortunes of the Club.

I will relish being involved and look forward to meting the players in the near future."
