INDIVIDUAL errors cost Chippenham Town dearly in their 2-1 defeat to Eastbourne Borough, according to manager Mark Collier.

The Bluebirds fell behind to Charlie Walker's strike in the opening half before Curtis McDonald popped up to level proceedings as they went in 1-1 at the break.

Collier was then forced to make some unplanned substitutions to his XI after George Rigg and Alex Ferguson both picked up knocks.

The game then ran away from the visitors as Eastbourne took the lead for the second time through Emmanuel Odubade and this time, Chippenham were unable to recover.

Collier says he was left with mixed feelings about his team’s performance.

“It was a difficult game to call really because we were certainly below par and I said to several players that their opponents were dominating them,” he said.

“However, we created better chances and just didn’t take them at vital times. We really could have gone in ahead at the break.

“We should have scored them, sometimes it comes back to haunt you and that is exactly what happened.

“We were countered, we made an individual mistake and then suddenly it is 2-1. They’re the home team so they sat behind the ball, we huffed in the last 15 minutes but credit to them.

“There were too many individual mistakes by us and there wasn’t enough cutting edge. We created some chances but we just didn’t take them.

“We need to be better in both boxes. Karnell Chambers and Nat Jarvis should have both done better before half-time.

“It was always going to be a difficult game but it was one we think we could have got something from, I don’t think we deserved to win the game but we didn’t deserve to lose either.”

Rigg came off with a hamstring complaint, while Ferguson was forced to be replaced after picking up an impact injury.

Collier believes both players should be okay to feature next Saturday when they welcome Billericay Town to Hardenhuish Park.

“Rigg had a tight hamstring, then Ferguson got a knock so that is two different substitutions to what we had planned,” he added.

“At this moment in time the little things are going against us and sometimes the little things make a big difference.

“We need to be more consistent, the players are aware of that. George will have treatment all week and Alex should be able to play next week if he ices up.”
