Zach Wajtknecht's latest take from the Swindon Robins camp

Speedway always has ups and downs and racing in this weekend’s final will be a big positive for me – especially after I crashed out of the semi-final, which Team GB went on to win, in Glasgow.

But before that we have a big meeting at the Abbey Stadium tomorrow.

We really need to win all of our three remaining home meetings if we want to be in with a chance of making the play-offs.

The team put in a good shift against Leicester last week and the track rode really well after initial doubts over the conditions.

For the first few races we had no option but to shut off when we went into the corners. That wasn’t ideal for us or the paying fans.

But once those first few heats passed, there was some good racing. To be honest it was quite nice to see a bit of rain after all the hot weather we’ve had lately.

That same night, Somerset had to call their meeting off against Wolverhampton. So I think the track staff deserve a bit of credit for making sure we could race.

Away from the Robins, I was due to ride for Lakeside on Friday night but that meeting unfortunately fell victim to the weather.

I spent eight hours in the van getting to the Arena Essex Raceway, a long way to drive for no racing.

Hopefully that isn’t the case when I race in Denmark at the weekend in the World U21 Team Cup Final.

It’s a nine-hour drive from Calais to the track and after that meeting finishes we’ll drive straight to Wolverhampton for Swindon’s away meeting there on the Monday.

The World U21 Cup is another big meeting and to go abroad and experience different tracks is always beneficial.

My mum and dad will be coming along, but compared to other drives we have to do when racing abroad this one isn’t too bad.

It was good of the GB team to get the semi-final held over here and obviously we got the win which is a bonus.

The whole team all get on well. I don’t think there’s too much pressure on ourselves. We’ll go out there and enjoy ourselves.
