SWINDON Town boss Phil Brown says their clash with Lincoln City was like watching men against boys at Sincil Bank.

The manager was given a harsh reminder of the more rigorous side of League Two in Lincolnshire as they dispatched a youthful Town squad with ease.

The hosts were 2-0 up after 20 minutes thanks to John Akinde’s penalty and Michael Bostwick’s close-range finish.

Midfielder Michael Doughty provided some hope for the 491 Swindon fans who made the trip with his third penalty in two games, as the visitors went in at 2-1.

After a promising start to the second instalment, Town were hit with a sucker-punch from former player Harry Toffolo, before Matt Green rounded off the 4-1 defeat.

Brown was visibly angered by the performance and says things need to change within his side after the defeat.

“At times I looked at the game, certainly in the first half and thought it was like watching men against boys,” he said.

“It was experience against a lack of experience. We gave ourselves a lifeline with the penalty and we went in at 2-1.

“That was literally a lifeline thrown to us and my half time team talk I told them it was about grasping an opportunity that comes your way.

“At times I thought it looked liked men against boys, but then sometimes it looked like we lacked belief in front of goal.

“If you can come away from Lincoln with a point, that is a great point but with 10 minutes to go the collapse came about.

“That hurts, it certainly hurts me.”

With just Matthew Taylor, Olly Lancashire, Keshi Anderson and Jermaine McGlashan being the only players who are carrying some level of experience, Brown thinks he needs to add some wiser heads to the group.

Marc Richards and Toumani Diagouraga carry that street-wise trait the Swindon boss is after and the Town boss says he needs as much as that on the pitch as possible.

“There is certainly an inexperience in the side at the moment, there is a lack of cohesion and belief,” he added.

“I thought that might have be resolved with last weekend’s game but there is a fundamental problem with the mentality.

“We’ve conceded 10 goals in three game and that is the wrong mentality, I don’t like conceding,, I like clean sheets.”
