MANAGER Andy Crabtree declared himself more than content with Warminster Town’s efforts in the first week of the new Toolstation League First Division campaign after picking up a maiden win at Calne Town on Tuesday night.

Warminster fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat away at Chippenham Park in Saturday’s season opener, but atoned for that in another Wiltshire derby in midweek with a 3-1 success at Calne.

Beau Blakeman, George Butler and Jake Wright were all on target to secure the points for Warminster, who finished bottom of the table last season.

Crabtree is delighted to have three points on the board already – and feels his side’s tally could actually be even better.

“Apart from the first 45 minutes on Saturday, I think we acquitted ourselves well in both games this week,” said Crabtree.

“It is a shame we didn’t get anything against Park as on reflection of the play, we probably deserved a draw in the second half.

“But to get three points out of six in the first week on the back of the season we had last year, I can’t complain about that.

“In the first half on Saturday, we didn’t play as well as we can do. We addressed it, and on Tuesday, the players put it right on the pitch.

“Calne are a good side. They had won on Saturday and they came out for the first 20 minutes and had a go at us, but we dug in.

“You don’t get given anything in this league and we had to work hard for it. Any side can beat anyone else, but we stuck at it and got our rewards in the end.”

After back-to-back away games, Warminster face their first home match of the season on Saturday when they host Sherborne Town, and Crabtree expects nothing easy at Weymouth Street.

“Every game in this league is a tough game, especially when you finished bottom the season before,” said Crabtree.

“We will go into it exactly as we did these first two games. We hope to win, but it is about what materialises on the day.”

Elsewhere, Corsham Town have also already tasted victory this season with Dan King firing them to a 1-0 win at Welton Rovers last weekend.

Justin Flowers’ side face a Wiltshire derby on Saturday when they host Calne at the Southbank.
