ASHUR Morrison felt the influence of rain did not have too much of a bearing on Potterne’s victory at home to Bath at the weekend, as they chased a rain-reduced target to triumph by five wickets in Premier One.

After a half-hour wait for the skies to clear, Bath racked up 292-7 off 46 overs after opting to bat first.

But after further weather disruption, Potterne were instead asked to chase a revised 150 off 21 overs, which they duly did.

“Obviously the game was shortened from the outset and then rain affected our innings, but I don’t the rain had too much of an impact,” said skipper Morrison.

“Bath still managed to score close to 300 runs and I don’t think the conditions deteriorated too badly as the game wore on.

“It left us to get 150 off 21 overs and if you look in most T20 games, that’s an average score these days.

“Even without Duckworth-Lewis coming in, we still on target for their score.”

Paul Muchall’s unbeaten 105 and 53 from Ben Wells set Bath up for their hefty total, as Sahan Wijerathne led the Potterne attack with 4-45.

After seeing their target trimmed almost in half, Potterne openers Tom Cullen (66 not out) and Tom Alsop (53) were soon into their stride with an opening stand of 84.

Four wickets from Adam Kelly, including a superb hat-trick, threatened to derail the hosts, however, opener Cullen soon steadied the ship and got them over the winning line in the final over, finishing on 154-5.

Morrison added: “We weren’t too worried by Bath’s score. Two weeks ago we chased down 300 to beat Downend, and we know that if there is a ground you can do it on, it is Potterne.

“The two Toms got us off to a really good start in the second innings but then we had a bit of a wobble as Adam Kelly bowled really well.

“We dug in and got over the line in the end.”

Elsewhere, Goatacre’s hopes of climbing off the foot of the table were dented when their match at home to second-from-bottom Frocester was abandoned.
