ASHUR Morrison insists the pressure will sit with Bath this weekend when Potterne look to earn a third WEPL Premier One victory on the spin.

Morrison’s men recorded a timely win at Bridgwater on Saturday when the hosts fell five runs short of victory after slipping to 204 all out with one ball to spare.

The victory epitomised Potterne’s character, according to Morrison – who now must steer his side past title-chasing Bath on Saturday.

He said: “I wouldn’t say Saturday was a complete team performance, but it was a very good one.

“If you look at the batting our highest score was 32, but everyone else scored around 15 to 25 runs.

“The one criticism is that none of us pushed onto get a half century, but the fact all of us chipped in to get a score north of 200 was pleasing for me considering the previous totals we’ve been bowled out for.

“Previously we didn’t show the resilience needed to at least bat for 50 overs.

“I think it was rally good that we at least batted our overs – if you do that you get a score of around 200. And for us that proved a winning total.”

A win for Potterne this weekend will bring Morrison’s troops closer to a top three finish in Premier One.

Understanding that two more wins are required to realistically avoid the drop, Morrison said securing those two results is his side’s main priority before they can look further up the table.

“You have to be realist when you’re captain, and two more victories – for me – will secure safety for us,” said Morrison.

“Then we can look at the league table and evaluate from there if we can challenge for the title.

“But with Bath being second, their mind will be completely focussed on challenging for second.

“The pressure is on them. As disappointed I would be about losing the game, we would stay around mid-table which is where we’ve been most of the season.”

Elsewhere in Premier One, Goatacre remain bottom of the division after suffering a 181-run loss at Bath.

The home side amassed a formidable 296-7 declared, with skipper Greg Hay scoring 81, Thomas Hankins 53 and Paul Muchall 43 as Bradley Dawson took 3-50.

But the reply subsided to 115 all out, Jack Haines with 47 as Adam Kelly and Harry Hankins took four wickets each.

Ed Wilkins’ men are now 21 points short of eighth-placed Bridgwater.
