CORSHAM skipper Tom Foley praised the efforts of his lower order batsmen following Saturday’s two-wicket win over Burbage & Easton Royal.

Foley’s men, who remain fourth in the Premier Two Glos/Wilts table, had Martin Roberts and Archie Easton’s ninth-wicket unbeaten partnership of 40 to thank as the visitors recovered to rescue a win from the jaws of defeat.

Set a target of 206, Corsham appeared in trouble when Sam Mitchell was the eighth man to fall with Foley’s side still 37 runs short of their target.

But Roberts and Easton played with patience to keep Corsham in with a chance of moving into the league’s top three.

Foley said: “It was great to win the way we did with Martin (Roberts) and Archie (Easton) batting the way they did at the end.

“Everyone chipped in, which was good, and after Burbage beat us at our place, it was nice to get a win back against them.

“We’re on a good little run at the moment, and we just want to keep going, really.

“I said it at the start of the season, we want to keep pushing, but you can’t expect too much.

“Anyone can beat anyone in this league. We have to take it game by game and see where we fall after.”

Corsham were hit with their first case of player unavailability during the summer on Saturday, with six first-team regulars missing.

With more players set to be missing over the next six weeks, Foley admitted his team will have to cope with fewer options when making team selection.

And with a troublesome tie against Westbury this weekend, Foley knows his men must be on top of their game.

He said: “It was good to see the second team players step up and show they can compete at the higher level.

“It’s tough in the summer because people do go away and it makes putting out a full team hard.

“Sadly, I’m out injured also. We had to do the best we could, and luckily, we got a win.

“We know Westbury have some good players, it’s always a tough game against them.

“They will be up for beating us. They’re in the bottom half so they will want a win.”

Elsewhere in Premier Two Glos/Wilts, Biddestone maintained their challenge for a top-half finish when beating Rockhampton at home.

Luke Panes won the toss and elected to bat first, and his side posted 250-8 from their 50 overs with Akito Jacques’ unbeaten 93 the highlight.

Rockhampton stumbled in reply and were soon chasing the game as Cameron Heath took five wickets while conceded only 28 runs

Heath’s efforts made Rockhampton’s target more unrealistic as the game went on, the visitors eventually slipped to 156 all out.
