TEAM changes prior to Swindon’s home fixture against Somerset Rebels on Thursday night are possible following another heavy loss for the Robins at Wolverhampton tonight.

Alun Rossiter’s troops suffered a 14-point defeat against Pete Adams’ men, a far cry from Robins’ dramatic SGB Premiership play-off winning victory at Monmore Green just nine months ago.

Troy Batchelor was the only rider to return with a double figure score while skipper Nick Morris proved useful in his concluding three rides after making a poor start.

Pole Tobiasz Musielak again endured a tough night, as did reserve Jack Smith – whose two points only came following the misfortune of riders hitting the deck in his heats.

The defeat marked Swindon’s seventh on the spin away from home, and it’s of great concern to Rossiter – who suggested team changes are nigh.

He said: “I’m in two minds for Thursday (against Somerset) at the moment.

“I’ll make a decision in the morning with regards to what I’ll do. I’ve had a chat with Troy (Batchelor) and Nick (Morris) about a couple of situations.

“I’ll make a decision on those tomorrow.

“Nick (Morris) struggled at the beginning but he got his act together at the end.

“Troy (Batchelor) is still on fire, hopefully now we can move forward.

“I’ve got to make a big decision regarding what way we go forward from here.”

Swindon’s faltering start to the meeting wasn’t helped by a poor racing surface at Monmore Green, with riders from both teams struggling to maintain control of the bike.

Nick Morris, Jack Smith, Tobaisz Musielak and home pairing Kyle Howarth and Nathan Greaves all hit the deck – Greaves came off worse when he was ruled out for the meeting with concussion.

Rossiter, who has praised the Wolverhampton track in years gone by, admitted it was the worst conditions he’s seen at Monmore Green.

With Robins due to face Wolverhampton again in just four weeks’ time, the Swindon boss hopes issues are ironed out beforehand.

He said: “It was a very frustrating night for us, the track was very difficult early on.

“If you made a gate that was it, I’ve never seen the Wolverhampton track in this state before.

“It’s the same for everybody though so we cannot use that as an excuse.

“When we gated we won, when we didn’t we didn’t. It’s important we regroup now.

“Wolverhampton has always been a good track, but I think they’re struggling with the shale.

“It was very heavily watered and very greasy early on, it made everything difficult.

“As I said it’s the same for both teams and we need to adapt better. But we can’t change things now, we’ve got to move forward and forget it.

“We do need to dig deep on Thursday.”
