CROCKED Corsham skipper Tom Foley hopes his side can continue to lay down a marker for future success after watching them record a seven-run Premier Two Glos/Wilts triumph over Lechlade on Saturday.

Foley, nursing a dislocated shoulder sustained a couple of weeks ago, saw his men stay on the fringes of the race for the top two positions as Tom Smith’s bowling proved decisive.

“We’re not looking too far ahead,’’ said Foley. “We hope we can continue to build from this year. It’s looking more positive than a few weeks ago and the boys have done well. Hopefully there are at least a couple more wins to come from us.’’

After winning the toss and batting, Corsham amassed 207 all out in 46 overs, thanks mainly to Tom Abbott’s 75 and the helping hand of 45 extras from the visitors.

Max Mortimer took 4-54 and Tom Barnes 3-35 for Lechlade.

Smith was dismissed for a golden duck after coming in to bat at four, but emphatically made amends with the ball as Lechlade fell just short of the required target.

Skipper Freddie Martin’s unbeaten 42 proved the highlight of the visitors’ reply but Smith took 5-43 to slow them down, Lechlade ending on 200-9 at the end.

Burbage & Easton Royal lost ground on the leaders as they lost a low-scoring encounter with Westbury by 47 runs.

After winning the toss, hosts Westbury decided to bat first, but Biddestone would have fancied their chances after restricting the home side to 173-6 from their 50 overs.

Opener Richard Mills (40) and Remano Esau (45), led the scoring, with Adam Lavis the pick of the visiting attack with 2-21.

Opener Duncan Lorrain (15) and Haydon Amor (8) gave the reply a solid enough start but they then fell in quick succession, and Burbage were further stung by the loss of skipper David Cope for a golden duck.

Henry Cooper, Dan Wootton, Lavis and Tom Wallbridge also fell cheaply to leave the away side in trouble at 70-7, but they were given a glimmer of hope by Jon Chandler’s half-century (51 from 79 balls).

Chandler, though, fell with the score on 115, and 11 runs later, it was all over as Andy Carroll took 3-22 and there were two wickets each for Alex Senneck, Dan Gill and Michael Coles.

Biddestone’s hopes of re-engaging with the top of the table also took a turn for the worst as they were defeated at promotion-chasing Dumbleton by four wickets.

Losing the toss, the visitors were asked to bat and scored 194 all out.

Tyrone Isitt (77), Luke Panes (20), Naeem Khan (19) led the way with the bat, Isitt and Panes putting on a stand of 83 for the sixth wicket as the bowling of Kyle Hodnett (5-23) and Tom Hage (3-48) kept the away side in check.

The hosts got home in the final ball of the 47th over, Ben Tegg’s 63 and 49 from Wade Ridsdale proving crucial. Cameron Beath took 3-29 and Khan 2-34 for Biddestone.
