SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter believes his side face the biggest threat to their 100 per cent home record in 2018 tonight when they face King’s Lynn Stars in the SGB Premiership.

The Robins have won all seven of their meetings at the Abbey Stadium this year and go hunting another this evening in an effort to extend their advantage at the top of the table.

However, King’s Lynn boast perhaps the most in-form rider in British speedway in their ranks in newly-crowned British champion Robert Lambert, and also have Niels-Kristian Iversen at number one, with the Dane one of just two riders in the league to boast a green sheet average above nine.

Swindon battled back from eight points down at the halfway stage of their previous home meeting against Rye House Rockets before winning 48-42 last Thursday, and Rossiter expects an even stiffer test against the Stars.

“We are in for a real fight. I think it is going to be are hardest home meeting of the season and we are going to have to be at our very best to protect that unbeaten home record,” said Rossiter.

“And we need to protect it. We need to keep it going as long as possible to give us the best chance of making the play-offs.

“The way we battled back to win last week was a real positive. I don’t think the boys took Rye House lightly, but sometimes a little bit of complacency does creep in – that happens.

“It was great that the boys all dug in and hopefully they will come in on Thursday knowing that have to be in on it right from the off.”

Rossiter, who also serves as team manager of the Great Britain national side, is delighted by the progress made by 20-year-old Lambert this season and hopes it can give belief to more young British riders.

“If I put my Great Britain hat on, it has been fantastic to see someone really kick on and come of age,” said Rossiter.

“Since the Speedway of Nations, Robert has really grown in strength and determination and it is great to have that talent in British speedway.

“Hopefully it can be a bit of a spur to someone like Adam Ellis here at Swindon and push him on to do the same.

“I believe he has the same ability so hopefully seeing Robert do what he has can help him kick on to the next level too.”

Jack Smith is available for Swindon, having been forced sit out the previous meeting with Rye House, but Rossiter has opted to mix up the main body of his team as Troy Batchelor moves down to number five, with Tobiasz Musielak swapping into the number three role.

The Stars have Kevin Doolan at reserve to replace Michael Palm Toft, who is unavailable.
