MARSHFIELD inflicted only a second defeat in seven WEPL Wiltshire games on Chippenham and took their own win tally to five with a 54-run triumph over their neighbours on Saturday.

Put into bat, a 72-run stand between Will Pascall (35) and Patrick Grieshaber (52) took Marshfield to 193-8.

Adeesha Nanayakkara took 3-49 for Chippenham, who were set a revised target of 195 from 48 overs but two wickets each from Lachlan Tyler, Tom Clist, Cameron Walker and Calum Burnstone saw them all out for 140.

Royal Wootton Bassett bounced back from their first defeat of the season seven days earlier to triumph at home to Calne.

Akash Sharma (4-31) and Sam Lawro (3-14) helped skittle the visitors out for just 73 in 24 overs and although Bassett’s top three all fell cheaply in reply, Darren Beasant’s side eased over the winning line inside 22 overs.

Marlborough and Corsham 2nd remain at the foot of the table after weekend defeats.

Swindon secure a thumping 125-run win at Corsham 2nd declaring after 39 overs on 227-6 before bowling the hosts out for 98.

Devizes were beaten by leaders Warminster (205 all out), despite three wickets from Matthew Brooks and 44 from Matthew Tilley.
