MELKSHAM Town boss Kieran Baggs is expected to add one more player to his squad before their first pre-season game at home to Hereford in early July.

Baggs has so far added experienced quartet Jon Davies, Kyle Phillips, Ross Lye and Omar Simpson to his squad, which will also face the likes of Swindon Town, Chippenham Town and Bristol Rovers at home before the season proper begins.

While Baggs is pleased with his additions, he admitted keeping the majority of last season’s promotion-winning squad intact was his main priority.

He said: “I only wanted to bring in three or four new men and keep the nucleus of last season.

“That’s gone to plan so far, though I would like to get one more through the door before we go back to pre-season. Then that will be, pretty much, all my work done.

“Jon Davies is a massive signing for the football club. He’s a local lad and my business partner so he doesn’t have too far to travel which is ideal.

“We’ve got Kyle Phillips from Frome Town too. He’s a goalkeeper of Southern League pedigree and has been around for 10 years or so.

“Ross Lye has relocated back to Melksham so that’s another big one for us. He’s been playing Southern League for a long time as well.

“Lastly Omar Simpson has joined from Paulton. He’s represented other teams at Southern League level as well.

“I didn’t want to lose too many (from last season) and out of the 18 in the squad 12 or 13 of those will be from Melksham which is brilliant for the football club.”

Baggs is particularly looking forward to welcoming a large crowd to the infiLED Arena on Tuesday, July 10, as Phil Brown brings his Swindon Town squad.

He said: “It’s going to be one of those games that everyone will want to come and watch.

“They’ll want to see what Swindon are bringing in under Phil Brown this year.

“It’s great for all the local Melksham lads that will be playing against them.

“To test them against the likes of Swindon Town and Bristol Rovers will be great for them, and a chance for myself to show off some of the signings we’ve made.”
