POOR batting and accurate bowling proved to be Corsham’s downfall at the weekend as they crashed to a heavy seven-wicket loss to Thornbury.

Skipper Tom Foley admitted his men stood little chance against Thornbury’s accuracy as they were skittled out for 156 before the visitors knocked off 160 in less than 18 overs in reply.

The result dropped Foley’s troops to eighth in Prem Two Glos/Wilts – a result of Corsham struggling for form in the early parts of the season having picked up just one win from five matches.

Foley said: “It’s been tricky so far this year, not many of us are finding form and with us not playing as many games as we normally would’ve at this time doesn’t helped.

“We started well on Saturday, and that is a positive to take into this weekend.

“Hopefully the lads turn up and we can put in a good account of ourselves.”

After being bowled out, Corsham’s cause wasn’t helped when Marc Lezar hit a century from less than 60 balls to guide Thornbury to a comfortable win.

Despite heavy rain in the build-up to the game, Foley insisted his side were beat by a better team – adding they must improve this weekend against Rockhampton if they are to pick up any league points.

He said: “They batted well to be fair to them, we must move on from this result and understand we have this week to bounce back.

“The pitch was absolutely fine, there was nothing wrong with it.

“But they bowled accurately and we batted poorly, a combination of both made it tough for us.”

Elsewhere in the division, Burbage moved up to third after a 27-run win at Dumbleton.

Burbage posted 267-6 from their 50 overs before accurate bowling from Oliver Lavis (3-36) restricted Dumbleton in reply as they were bowled out for 240.

Biddestone were also in winning form at home against mid-table rivals Trowbridge.

Andy Flynn’s men did it the hard way after only edging Trowbridge by four runs.

A score of 220 was posted by Biddestone with opener Dwaine Perry (45) top scoring.

In reply, Trowbridge were bowled out with three balls to spare as Liam Boulton (4-26) starred with the ball.
