WILTSHIRE golfer Jordan Smith will look to bounce back from his disappointment at last week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth when he tees off at the Italian Open this morning.

A disastrous quadruple bogey at the penultimate hole of his second round scuppered Derry Hill man Smith’s chances of making the cut as he took a nine at the par-five 17th.

That meant for a four-over second round of 76 to drop him to three-over overall, missing the cut by three strokes at the European Tour’s flagship event.

Smith, competing a the tournament for the second time, had enjoyed a positive start to the week with a one-under first round of 71.

Italian Francesco Molinari was crowned the eventual champion on 17-under, beating Northern Ireland’s four-time Major champion Rory McIlroy by two shots.

Bowood player Smith now resumes his European Tour campaign at the Italian Open in Brescia.

The 25-year-old tees off his first round at Gardagolf County Club at 11.50am BST, playing alongside South Africa’s former Masters winner Trevor Immelman and Spaniard Alvaro Quiros.
