CHIPPENHAM skipper Lee Ward insists Saturday’s crushing seven-wicket loss to Warminster was only a blip in the system as his men eye a return to form against Purton this weekend.

Ward’s men slipped from 87-1 to 117 all out as Warminster’s John Powell starred by taking four wickets for just 16 runs.

Powell’s efforts were backed up by impressive figures for Tristan Lundqvist (2-0) and Elliot Hooper (2-19) as Chippenham returned home with only one league point.

“It’s been a great start to the season for us, but we just didn’t perform near where we know we can,” said Ward.

“We made a good start with Ralph (Hardwick) and Chris (Munden) taking us to 87-1, but then we were bowled out for 117.

“Warminster had a strong bowling attack and we knew that would be the case, it’s just disappointing we couldn’t perform.

“We intend this result to be a blip, not a trend.”

After winning their opening three contests, Ward urged his men to bounce back at home to Purton this weekend.

He added: “Purton have some strong players and we will have to be on top of our game.

“We spoke in the dressing room after the game about it not being a nice feeling to lose the way we did, we want to bounce back.”

Elsewhere in WEPL Wiltshire, Devizes won by 39 runs at Corsham after wickets were shared around by Thomas Grant, Courtney Earl, Sumith Surendran and Joe Wookey.

Devizes reached 210-9 from their 50 overs before Corsham were restricted to 171 all out.

Marshfield also won after they reached 205-8 from their 50 overs before Calnewere skittled out for 37.

Royal Wootton Bassett also won after bowling out Purton for 47 while Marlborough suffered defeat at Swindon after being restricted to 105 in chase of 281.
