POTTERNE skipper Ashur Morrison insists his men must follow on from Saturday’s convincing win against Bridgwater when they face Bath this weekend if they are to challenge for the Premier One title.

Morrison’s men exploited Bridgwater’s bowling weaknesses at the weekend to coast to a comfortable eight-wicket win.

A standout century from wicketkeeper Tom Cullen (104) guided Potterne to their target of 275 with 7.1 overs to spare.

The win lifted Potterne to second in the Premier One table having secured 49 points from their opening three matches.

“Though Bridgwater only had one first-team bowler, I still thought we were very comprehensive,” said Morrison.

“Tom (Cullen) showed why he’s professional, he looked under control.

“The game never really looked in doubt.

“We did well and took the game away from them.

“It turned into a simple run chase following our opening partnership.”

Tight bowling from Jake Roberts (2-31) played a big part in Bridgwater reaching 274 from their 50 overs.

Wickets were otherwise shared around between Basil Akram, Jake Goodwin and Ed Young.

Morrison said: “It was a really good win and we did well to restrict them to the score they got.

“Wickets were shared too, it’s good to know as captain that bowlers can pick up wickets at any part of the game.”

Potterne must now face up to a stiff task away at Bath on Saturday.

With both teams enjoying a positive start to the season, Saturday’s result could have a big swing in terms of momentum and league position.

And it’s something Morrison is all too aware of.

He said: “I’m happy with how well we’ve started, but I’ve said it so many times before it is still early days.

“If we want to match our goal of challenging for the title we need to continue this form.

“Bath this weekend will be a tough game, they’re always a tough side to play against.

“They’re strong and organized, this weekend will be a good indicator to see where we are at.”

Elsewhere in Premier One, Goatacre slipped to a two-wicket loss at home to Bath.

Ed Wilkins’ men reached 227-9 from their 50 overs before Bath reached their target with two overs spare.
