ALUN Rossiter feels his Swindon Robins have some unfinished business with the SGB Premiership Knockout Cup ahead of tomorrow night's quarter-final first leg against Rye House Rockets at the Abbey Stadium (7.30pm).

A semi-final exit to eventual winners Belle Vue Aces was a minor blemish on a magnificent season for the Blunsdon men last season and having already collected the 2017 league title and Charity Shield in the last few months, Rossiter is keen enough to complete the set.

Robins bounced back to winning form with a comfortable home league success over Wolverhampton Wolves on Thursday, and Rossiter said: “Having won the league and the Charity Shield recently it would be nice to get our hands on this piece of silverware too.

“We beat Rye House at this stage last year and it was a shame we then had to race up at Belle Vue without our normal team because I feel we should have made another final.”

Swindon are in decent nick, David Bellego enjoying a successful weekend individually by booking his place in the Grand Prix Challenge later this summer.

Bellego scored 12 points in his qualifier at Lonigo in Italy, finishing second overall after winning a three-man run-off with Kevin Wolbert and Chris Harris - who rides for the Rockets on Monday night - to take one of the two available places from that race.

In-form Swindon asset Stefan Nielsen guests for concussion victim Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen at reserve for Rye House and Rossiter added: “They had a tough start to the season with their away matches, but we all know what KK (Krzysztof Kasprzak) can do when he has a good night, and you also know what you’re going to get with the likes of Bomber (Harris) and Scott (Nicholls).

“But we’re still confident in our own abilities and we showed again on Thursday that we are a strong team around the Abbey.

“So the first priority is to get a good win on the board to give us something to take to Rye House on Wednesday, and there’s no reason why we can’t do the job there as well.”

Robins reserve Zach Wajtknecht has been named by Great Britain youth boss Neil Vatcher as one of four riders to represent his country in the World U21 qualifying rounds.

Wajtknecht joins British U21 and U19 champions Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley, plus former Swindon rider Nathan Greaves in an attempt to reach the three-round final series.

The semi-finals all take place on June 16 with Lambert heading to Rawicz in Poland, Bewley and Greaves racing at Vetlanda in Sweden, whilst Wajtknecht will compete at Liberec in the Czech Republic.

Vatcher said: “I was been impressed with both Zach and Nathan in the British U21 semi-finals, and although Zach didn't have the best final he has had some major scalps already this season riding for Swindon.

“I believe these four guys would be the top four on current form, and because they all ride in the Premiership they know how hard they have to be to race against the best riders in the world.”

The Final series takes place at Daugavpils (Latvia) on June 29, Leszno (Poland) on July 22 and Pardubice (Czech Republic) on September 28.
