CHIPPENHAM Town lifted the Wiltshire Senior Cup this evening after a 3-0 victory over Highworth Town in the final.

The game got off to a pedestrian start at the County Ground as both sides looked to sign-off their seasons with a piece of silverware.

National League South’s Chippenham took the early initiative as they had the majority of the ball, while Jeff Roberts’ Worthians were a potential threat on the counter.

Striker Nick McCootie went close for the Bluebirds in the 10th minute as he met a cross from the right with his head, but was wide of the target.

The goal then petered out and it wasn’t the greatest spectacle, as the first half continued, but with 10 minutes left to play of the opening half, Mark Collier’s troops were able to score.

Will Richards was the scorer as he was found by James Guthrie’s free-kick allowing the defender to hand Chippenham a 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second instalment, Highworth looked revitalised as Jordan Roberts hit the bar with the header as they looked to get back level.

However, eight minutes after the restart, Chippenham doubled their lead as Guthrie turned from provider to scorer.

Andy Sandell was able to knock the ball on to the back post, where Guthrie was able to stab home from close range.

Alex Ferguson then got in on the action to make it three as he was on hand to nudge McCootie’s ball past Josh Langley at the near post.

Substitute Josh Smile almost made an instant impact as he was found by Sandell, before stepping inside and shooting, however, Langley stuck out a leg to turn it behind.

In the closing stages, Chippenham were by far the better team as they saw out a comfortable victory.
