ADAM Ellis was pleased to help Swindon Robins defeat his former club Poole Pirates at Wimborne Road by a huge 14 points on Wednesday night.

Ellis recorded three paid wins and a last place from his four rides in Dorset last night, helping the Robins go joint top of the SGB Premiership table despite racing just one meeting – unlike the teams surrounding Alun Rossiter’s men who have raced at least twice.

A win against the King’s Lynn Stars on home shale tonight could see the Robins go top of the Premiership table by a clear margin.

And Ellis enters tonight’s meeting full on confidence.

He said: “Poole was a good meeting all round.

“I had one blip in the middle of the meeting but found a good setup for the last race.

“I didn’t feel like I made the best of starts but I managed to get amongst it, as soon as I was out in front I felt more comfortable.

“It was a good win and a nice way to start the season.

“It’s always nice to come to Poole and walk away with all the points.

“It was important to start our league season in a positive way against what is a strong team.”

The 22-year-old French-born racer believes Robins have an underdog tag associated with them this season.

But a convincing performance away at Belle Vue coupled with wins against the Aces and at Poole last night mean Rossiter’s troops cannot be underestimated this season.

Ellis said: “It’s always tough racing away from home.

“But we’re in the same position this year as we were last year, people aren’t expecting us to do well.

“They expect us to be a bit of an easy team to ride against.

“It’s nice to put a marker down early on.

“We’re not top heavy but we’ve got a rider at number one who we know can score double figures like he did tonight.

“It’s always nice to see that.

“But we’ve also got a solid one to five and our reserves are only going to get better.

“We’ve got a solid team. There are no superstars but so long as we do our job right week in week out we should be up there.”
