LUKE Norris feels he was still proving his worth within the Swindon Town side even amid his recent goals drought.

Striker Norris ended a 10-game barren spell when he got the opener in Town’s 3-1 win away at Cambridge United in League Two last weekend.

That was his 13th strike of the season and he remains at the head of Swindon’s scoring charts in 2017-18.

The 24-year-old paid tribute to fit-again Chris Hussey following his goal, with the on-loan full-back starting at Cambridge for the first time in six months due to a groin injury and marking his comeback with the cross that led to Norris breaking the deadlock.

Norris has had chances to end that unwanted streak before the trip to the Abbey Stadium but says it is team gains rather than personal ones that take precedence with the side fighting for a place in the play-offs.

“I started the season really well and got a few goals but it did dry up,” said Norris, ahead of today’s trip to Exeter City.

“I have to give credit to having Huss back. He set a lot of them up earlier in the season and it is great to have him back in the side. It was another one of his runs and perfect balls again.

“We seem to have a thing that wherever he puts it, I am normally half-guess it and it normally always comes in with quality.

“I have been happy with what I have been doing and maybe I could have been selfish, but I may have not scored and with the position we are in now, where would that have put us?

“Whether the goals don’t come, there is always more to the game that I have added, and I do think that helps us.”

New recruit Marc Richards has carried Town’s chief goal threat in recent weeks and took his tally to nine in 10 starts with a brace against Cambridge.

The 35-year-old year old only arrived at the Energy Check County Ground on a free transfer in January and Norris says his quality is clear for all to see.

“He is a terrific forward and he has had a terrific career,” said Norris.

“When you look at the amount of goals he has scored over the years, to be able to do that you have got to be some player.

“He has got nine in 10 for us and to do that at the age he is at is a credit to himself. He has really helped us out massively and kept us in the hunt.”
