LAST year wasn’t great because of my injury but it is important to move on from it because there is nothing we can do about it now.

Getting injured (ruptured spleen) is the risk you take by getting onto a speedway bike. At the time it didn’t seem like it was much, but I took the time off and recovered fully.

I could have come back earlier and tested it but any little slide off or anything like that could have seen me go back to square one, so I am glad I took the time and now I feel normal again.

The recovery time was frustrating because I was up and about but I just couldn’t get back on the bike.

I probably spent about eight weeks laying in bed, being annoyed and watching updates on how the team were getting on.

The doctors said to me not to jab or hit it anywhere, but I could do that anywhere, I could do that walking down the street.

I’ve just got to be careful with it now.

Before the injury I was thoroughly enjoying my speedway and I had made a great start to the season before it ended early.

This year I’m just looking to carry on from where I left off last year.

This year I have moved to number six so hopefully, that will help me out a bit now too.

Last year I was scoring some good points so I just hope that I am able to do the same again this season.

My performances surprised me as well as everyone else, it was good – like I’ve said to everyone, Rosco had the belief in me and I think that showed.

There were meetings where I wasn’t scoring many points but Rosco was still keeping me in the rides and I think him doing that helped me a lot.

Once I mastered the track I was away and I think it was the same for the rest of the group who were here last year.

Rosco has managed to keep the majority of that team together this year, bar losing Jason Doyle and Bradley Wilson-Dean.

Keeping the boys together was hugely important, I’ve come back to it this season and everything just feels normal.

It’s just the same people, in the same place so it just feels natural to me.
