SUTTON Benger kept up the pressure on Dorset & Wilts Two North leaders Calne by claiming their 12th victory of the season with a 22-7 win against a physical Swindon College Old Boys 2nd.

College took a well-deserved lead with a converted try 15 minutes into the first half, tying up Benger’s defenders by utilising their big ball carriers before shipping the ball wide to score in the corner.

However, Benger’s young full back, Ben Pope, hit back with a fantastic solo try.

Catching the ball in his own half, he proceeded to beat a number of defenders before crossing the line.

The visitors’ physical game continued to cause Benger problems but it was the home side that struck next, just before half time.

Will Creamer capitalised on a poor kicked clearance, which saw the ball go back behind his own try line and it was the home prop who reacted fastest.

As the second half progressed Benger began to control the game more, utilising a quick pressing defensive line to combat Swindon’s strong runners.

After a period of sustained pressure, captain Callum Halford converted a penalty before finishing off a well-worked backs move with a try five minutes later.
