CARLISLE United have lodged an appeal against the diving charge on striker Shaun Miller.

The 30-year-old became the first player to be retrospectively charged with diving since the new laws were brought in by the FA in May this year.

The former Sheffield United man was charged with ‘successful deception of a match official’ after an alleged ‘clear act of simulation’.

The incident occurred during Carlisle’s 3-3 draw with Wycombe Wanderers, when Miller won a penalty, which was converted by Jamie Devitt.

Should the ban be upheld, he will be suspended for two matches.

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell is hoping his skipper Chris Dagnall will be available for today’s match with Accrington Stanley.

The striker was absent for their clash with Notts County in midweek with an Achilles injury but is hopeful to return this weekend.

Youngster Lewis Reilly is also a doubt after he too missed their 2-0 win over the Magpies with a neck injury, although the 18-year-old has been training alone in a bid to prove his fitness.

Tom Lowry picked up a knock in Tuesday’s game, but looks set to retain his place for the Cheshire side, who are chasing their third consecutive home win.

Port Vale winger Cristian Montano is also looking to gain a starting berth following his return from injury.

The winger signed for the Staffordshire side in the summer but was dealt an injury blow early on when he tore his hamstring in the build up to their clash with Coventry City on Saturday, 9 September.

New boss Neil Aspin handed Montano a brief outing in their win over Morecambe, in which the Colombian winger scored the third and final goal in a 3-0 win away from home.

Stevenage will give Ben Kennedy and Danny Newton as much time as possible to prove their fitness ahead of their fixture with Forest Green Rovers.

Midfielder Kennedy had been playing with a slight knock, while Newton has been struggling with fatigue.

Both players featured in their 3-2 home win over Accrington on Tuesday, with Kennedy scoring an 89th minute winner.
