SWINDON Town manager David Flitcroft praised his side for a perfectly-executed game plan as their late show secured another away day success in League Two in a 2-0 win at Forest Green Rovers.

Town were resolute throughout the 90 minutes at The New Lawn, denying a Forest Green side managed by former Swindon boss Mark Cooper any clear-cut chances before snatching the points late on.

Olly Lancashire bundled home a Matt Taylor corner from close range with four minutes to go before Taylor sealed the points in stoppage time when Rovers keeper Bradley Collins allowed his 25-yard shot to squirm under him.

The result means Flitcroft has now overseen back-to-back wins for the first time since taking over at the County Ground this summer, with his team also making it four wins out of five in the league this term.

“It’s another away performance where we have been resilient, we have been strong, we have been solid and we have been patient,” said Flitcroft. “The habits and the attitude of the players was outstanding. We didn’t want to come here and not be resilient and our structure not be good.

“We kept another clean sheet and the chances they created were a couple of weak shots that have not really tested us.

“I am delighted with the performance through being in good shape. We have created some outstanding chances that if we are more ruthless, we take and we finish.”

After being shown highlights of the game by Sky Sports after the final whistle – with the game broadcast live – Flitcroft felt his side could have been even more deserving winners.

However, that did not take any gloss of another excellent away performance in front of 800 travelling Town fans.

“I saw on Sky two penalty claims. Darren (Drysdale) is a good referee and it’s potentially a penalty but in the other games we have had with lesser referees, it has been a penalty,” said Flitcroft.

“We’re a little bit hard done by that we have not gone in at half-time 2-0 up with Paul Mullins’ chance and Luke Norris’ chance, which was a great block, but it is a fantastic performance.

“I am so delighted for the players that they got to celebrate with the fans afterwards as I think if we could have got the allocation, we could have doubled the attendance here because our fans on the road have just been brilliant.”
