DEVIZES Town manager Darran Walters admits he expected a few more ‘fireworks’ in Tuesday night’s derby clash with Toolstation League First Division leaders Westbury United after it ended goalless.

The table-toppers arrived at Nursteed Road with an unbeaten 10-match record in the league, while Walters’ men were looking to bounce back from Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at second placed Bristol Telephones.

It was a game of few chances with Devizes’ Robbie Mitchell going close on two occasions, while Westbury hit the crossbar in the first half and were also thwarted by Adam Walters in the home goal.

“It was quite a low-key derby to be honest,” Walters said. “I was a expecting more fireworks – the game never really got going.

“I think both sides were quite respectful of each other. They probably had the better of the play in the first half and we probably shaded it in the second.

“It keeps our unbeaten home run going – we haven’t lost at home since March.”

Malmesbury Victoria have been unable to follow up their FA Vase heroics over the past week after suffering back-to-back defeats.

After beating Premier Division outfit Chipping Sodbury Town 5-3 after extra-time a fortnight ago, Kevin Bridgeman’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat at Wincanton Town on Saturday, with Jamie Packer on target for the Vics.

Malmesbury then suffered a 4-3 loss at Cheddar on Tuesday night.

Chippenham Park have also suffered two successive defeats.

On Saturday, Park were beaten 3-2 by 10-man Portishead Town, with the Hardenhuish Park side’s goals coming from Darrin Moss and Alex Pring.

Then on Tuesday night, despite Moss and Pring being on target again, Park lost 6-2 to Keynsham Town despite it being 1-1 at half-time.

Elsewhere, Jonathan Bazley came off the bench to hand Corsham Town only their second win of the season as they beat Cheddar 1-0, while Calne Town suffered a 6-0 home defeat to Bishops Lydeard.
