Likely line-up
One to watch - Richard Duffy
HAVING struggled in League Two last season, defence was the Magpies’ biggest cause for concern, conceding 76 goals, the second highest in the division.
As a result, Kevin Nolan spent a lot of time in pre-season working at the opposite end of the field to that he is more comfortable with.
Despite conceding six goals in their opening two fixtures, a solid back line has formed the foundation for County to build from this season and skipper Duffy has been pivotal in that.
The 32-year-old former Welsh international, who dropped out of league football last summer for four weeks before heading to Meadow Lane, put in a team-of-the-week performance in a clean sheet against his former club Port Vale, with another shut-out recorded on Saturday at home to Morecambe.
Key battle - Ben Purkiss v Jorge Grant
BEN Purkiss is getting better and better for Town as each game passes as he finds his feet in his new surroundings.
That has also been helped by the tireless running of Paul Mullin ahead of him, with the duo striking up a good partnership down the right.
However, that will be tested to its fullest tonight as they contend with County’s Grant. The winger, on loan from city neighbours Nottingham Forest, scored six goals in 17 games in his first loan spell at Meadow Lane last season.
Turning down a host of League One and SPL clubs to re-join County in the summer and has already got four goals to his name this term.
