Goal: Donal McDermott 13’

Venue: Globe Arena

Reports 11-year-old Brandon Guy

The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald:

SWINDON Town came straight out of the blocks at the Globe Arena and were passing with comfort, which Town fans didn’t really get to see last season under the old regime.

In the 13th minute, Donal McDermott received the ball from Ben Purkiss down the right flank and he turned and planted the ball in the bottom left corner, from just outside the box.

At the other end, a Morecambe player went one-on-one with goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux, the Swindon stopper getting down well and making a great save. Morecambe then had another chance where ex-Swindon Town player Michael Rose fired a free-kick at Vigouroux, who easily saved it.

Half Time – Morecambe 0 – 1 Swindon Town

The second half was all Swindon up until the 75th minute, during that time Swindon were in control.

The Robins gained possession and tried to play new striker Kaiyne Woolery through on goal but it hit the back of his foot and Morecambe gained possession.

Former Morecambe striker Paul Mullin later had a chance which he curled over the crossbar.

The last five minutes of the match was scary at times for the Robins but Town got through it and grasped the three points to make them undefeated so far League Two.

Full Time - Morecambe 0 – 1 Swindon Town

I think it’s fair to say new gaffer David Flitcroft has prepared a perfect team for the new season and I am pretty sure that we will be giving the rest of League Two a run for their money.

After the match I was lucky enough to meet Swindon Town owner Lee Power, who was pleased with Saturday’s result.
