AS WE now find ourselves four games into the David Flitcroft era at Swindon Town, we’ve had a small taste of what’s potentially in-store for the upcoming season.

It’s clear for all to see Town’s attacking options this year look special, especially Paul Mullin, Luke Norris and Kaiyne Woolery.

Despite only playing 107 minutes for Town, you can already tell Woolery is a box office player, someone who will get bums off seats.

He’s the sort of talent we’ve been missing at the County Ground for years, a man people will look forward to seeing play, like a Massimo Luongo or Matt Ritchie.

It will be exciting to witness his progress throughout the season.

Mullin has also made an immediate impact with his goals and all-round performances.

He runs himself into the ground for the cause, a complete pain for any defender.

That’s not to forget Norris of course.

The former Gillingham man looks reborn under Flitcroft.

Granted he’s playing in a lower division, but the pass he made on Saturday for Woolery’s debut goal in the 1-1 draw against Exeter is something he’d never have tried to do last season.

The assist machine Chris Hussey also continues to impress, and looks to be an inspired signing from Flitcroft. His partnership with Woolery will be a key one going forward.

But to go alongside the exciting attacking play, has been the slight disappointment of our three centre-backs.

Chris Robertson, Dion Conroy and Oliver Lancashire are all good players - we all saw last season how impressive Conroy could be as he watched the ship sinking around him.

But on Tuesday evening it was painfully clear there was no understanding between Conroy and Lancashire, as West Ham U21s were allowed to run riot.

All three of their goals were easily preventable.

I know I’m probably being incredibly harsh as the season is still in it’s infancy, but it’s important the manager quickly decides who will be his centre-back pairing going forward so they can begin to form that key partnership, starting this Saturday away at Morecambe.
