SWINDON Town manager David Flitcroft says he may not be done and dusted in the transfer market just yet with still more than a fortnight to go until the window shuts.

Flitcroft has made 11 summer signings since his appointment as Town boss back in June, with the latest being the deal that brought striker Kaiyne Woolery to the County Ground from League One side Wigan Athletic for £350,000 last Monday.

However, that still only takes the total number of players in Swindon’s first-team squad to 22, with youngsters Jake Evans, Jesse Starkey and Tom Ouldridge having been told they are free to find new clubs at the start of the season.

Flitcroft says recruitment is an ongoing process at Town and more new arrivals may be unveiled before deadline day on August 31 should a suitable addition become available.

“I will keep adding until the window shuts if I feel it’s going to improve the squad,” said Flitcroft.

“Then our recruitment goes into looking for the January window, so our recruitment for January starts the day the current window shuts.

“That’s what any progressive club will do.”

Town continued their promising start to the new season on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at home to Exeter City in League Two.

Having put together three strong performances in a row, Flitcroft says there are still areas where his side can make big inroads ahead of this evening’s Checkatrade Trophy clash against West Ham United U23s at the County Ground.

“We are certainly going to improve and we are certainly going to get better, that’s one thing I can assure the fans,” said Flitcroft.

“There’s a lot of things we need to work on and we will work on.

“We are just going to keep improving and when I saw the lads after the game on Saturday, they understood the two halves were chalk and cheese.

“In the second half, they recognised that connection with the supporters and what they gave them.

“We certainly know how to go and play away from home but now we have got to come up with a strategy and team performance at home that excites our fans.

“That’s something I spoke to the chairman about when I first got the job and something I want to deliver.”
