SWINDON Robins continued their purple patch as they secured an emphatic 20-point victory over Poole Pirates away from home last night.

Swindon were on the back of a fifth-straight win for the first time since May last year as they headed south to Wimborne Road, which was bathed in sunshine for the start of the meeting, with the previous night’s storms having cleared away.

A fine start from Tobiasz Musielak saw him take heat one, with Jason Doyle, struggling for balance in bend one, getting embroiled in a battle with Timo Lahti, the Poole rider coming out on top, as the hosts’ number one Krysztof Kasprzak was met by boos from the fans as he finished last.

There were calls of movement from a vocal home crowd at the start of heat two, but Adam Ellis was deemed to be stationary when the tapes went up to take the victory and extend Swindon’s lead, with Zach Wajtknecht claiming third.

Heat three was brought to a halt after Bradley Wilson-Dean started well but ran wide and Jack Holder was collected by Richie Worrall, who took some time getting to his feet before returning on Paul Starke’s spare bike.

Swindon’s Kiwi rider, with his new engine, gated well again in the re-run and was followed out of bend two by David Bellego.

The Frenchman was engulfed by the two Poole riders down the back straight, before regaining second place for Swindon’s first maximum of the evening.

Poole looked like they were set to respond to Swindon’s fast start in heat four when James Shanes and Hans Andersen led into bend two but after the latter packed up out of bend two, the sole Poole man was left to fend off Nick Morris and Watjknecht in fine style.

Doyle picked up his first win of the evening in heat five as he came across well from gate four, to lead Holder, with Musielak pushing the Poole man all the way in third spot.

Kasprzak responded to the jeers from the crowd after heat one to lead from the start in heat six, with Morris and Ellis unable to mount a challenge behind as Swindon maintained their 10-point advantage.

Poole opted to hand their tactical ride to Andersen in heat seven and with Bellego and Wilson-Dean leading out of bend two, it looked like a bad move, but the Danish rider salvaged second spot and a share of the spoils.

In the next, Shanes fought well to hold onto the lead in bend one but Musielak showed his talent as he cut back down the inside out of bend two and his pace left the young Brit in his wake down the back straight.

Holder got off to a strong start in heat nine, but as Worrall made the move down his inside down the back straight, Morris launched a stealth attack down the outside to surprise them both and take the win.

Lahti finally found a start in heat 10 as he flew away from the line, but he was followed by the Swindon duo of Bellego and Wilson-Dean, with the latter doin

doing well to fend off the advances of Kasprzak to keep the visitor’s 12-point lead safe.

Swindon extended their advantage in heat 11 with Doyle, leading from the start and despite Andersen going deep into bend one, Musielak couldn’t capitalise out of bend two but pushed the Dane all the way, getting a bit too close as he clipped his back wheel on lap two and did well to stay on his ride.

Ellis got away well in 12 and with Shanes putting his bike down in bend one at the back, it was another heat win for the Robins, although Wilson-Dean was unable to trouble Holder in a very spread out race.

Doyle left everyone in his wake from the start but Andersen didn't take kindly to it and took the Aussie down the back straight of lap one, with Morris drawing in Kasprzak by the end of lap two for a share of the spoils.

Bellego gated well from one in heat 14 and held his line well out of bend two to lead and despite being put under pressure out of bend four, he kept Starke behind him well for the heat win.

Swindon wrapped up their four point victory in fine style as Bellego and Morris led all the way to claim a maximum and secure the 20-point victory in front of a despondent Wimborne Road crowd.
