NEW signing Paul Mullin is backing Swindon Town to be the biggest club in League Two this season after putting pen to paper on a two-year deal yesterday.

The 22-year-old admitted that he needed little convincing to head to the County Ground after speaking to manager David Flitcroft, as he became the club’s third signing of the summer.

The forward, who scored 28 goals in 140 appearances during his three seasons at Morecambe, turned down the offer of a two-year contract from the Shrimps in favour of a move to Wiltshire and is now looking to enjoy success at his new club.

“I’m made up, I’m glad it is over the line and ready for the first day of pre-season. All the lads have welcomed me well so I am just looking forward to getting started now,” he told the Adver.

“As soon as he (Flitcroft) called and told me the plan. Obviously he wants to go straight back up, the work ethic and working as a team, I bought into it straight away and I couldn’t wait to get down here.

“There were a few (clubs) interested throughout the summer and it was a long summer waiting to pick and choose who to go to.

“As soon as Swindon said they were interested and could get the deal done, I couldn’t wait to get down.

“I feel Swindon are going to be the biggest team in the league this year and are looking to get promotion, which makes a change from trying to stay in the league.

“The new gaffer has come in and a few new players too and there is a different feel about the place straight away from when he (Flitcroft) came in to now.

“He was just saying he wants the work ethic of the club to change and he wants everyone to work hard, run hard and work for each other and he feels that will get us to our goals together, so that is what we are hoping to do.”

Flitcroft, who oversaw Swindon’s first day back at training yesterday, was delighted with his third addition and is anticipating his fourth to follow in quick succession after spending two weeks securing the deal.

“I’ve been tracking (Mullin) for quite a while,” Flitcroft said. “He’s a northern boy and every time you watched him and you did a report on him, the same things came back.

“The consistency, the drive, the willingness to win, the willingness to run hard, the willingness to run beyond and chase everything down.

“I think over the next two days we’ll get another one in. We’ve done a heck of a lot of work on it and the staff behind the scenes have done some incredible work on it and we’ve worked really hard to try and get this one over the line.

“Until the deal is over the line – we’ve missed out on a couple we thought we had got – then it’s not something I ever want to comment on.”
