MELKSHAM Town manager Darren Perrin believes that the Toolstation League side’s glamour pre-season friendly against Swindon Town will be just as beneficial for their illustrious visitors.

New Swindon boss David Flitcroft will take his first-team squad to Oakfields on July 11 for their second match of the summer following a trip to Swindon Supermarine on July 8.

The game against Town helps continue a mouth-watering start to Melksham’s pre-season schedule as they play host to another Football League side on July 8 with the visit of Bristol Rovers.

Perrin is delighted with the coup and is sure that it is more than just the chance to stretch their legs in some competitive minutes that the professional players will enjoy.

“It’s massive for us to get clubs like that to come to us and I have got to extend a big thank you to David Flitcroft, Alan McLoughlin, Seamus Brady and Steve Anderson and everyone at Swindon for agreeing to it,” said Perrin.

“I have had plenty of meetings with them, they have been to see our facilities and we are over the moon that they are going to come.

“It will be their first-team squad, their U18 team have a game the same night so it will be the Swindon players that everyone knows.

“It will be fantastic for our players but I am sure the Swindon players will enjoy it too.

“I don’t think they will have been to a non-league ground with facilities or a pitch as good as ours or as pitch in as good condition as ours. I’m sure they will get as much out of it as we will.

“We are delighted to be able to bring clubs of that stature to Melksham. We know we’re going to get a great crowd and it’ll be a fantastic night for everyone who comes.”

Tickets for the Melksham game go on sale on Friday at Oakfields between 8.30am and 4.30pm and from the same times from Monday to Friday next week. Adult tickets cost £6, with £4 for OAPs and U16 tickets charged at £1.

Ticket details for the Supermarine match have yet to be announced.
