WILTSHIRE duo Jordan Smith and Laurie Canter are both in with a chance of making it to the weekend at the Rocco Forte Open after some solid scores in Sicily.

Smith started the day three under-par and is slightly more comfortable than Canter following after he carded a round of 68.

The 24-year-old, who won the European Challenge Tour Order of Merit last year, made a steady start to his second round as he registered eight straight pars before collecting a birdie four on the ninth.

Smith was then able to up the ante in his back nine as he sealed a birdie four on the 12th as well as a pair of birdie threes on holes 16 and 17.

As the Derry Hill golfer was about to sign off a superb outing, he blemished his scorecard with a bogey five on the final hole of the day, leaving him with a score of six-under following another round of 68.

Meanwhile Canter won’t be quite as confident of making the cut after he recorded a turbulent round in southern Italy.

The Cumberwell Park pro teed off following a fantastic first round on the opening day which saw him start with a score of six under-par.

However the 26-year-old was unable to replicate yesterday’s form as he recorded a bogey six and a bogey five on the second and eighth holes before repairing some of the damage with a birdie four on the ninth.

He started his back nine with a par four on the 10th before picking up his third bogey of the day on the par four 11th.

Canter reclaimed the extra stroke on the next hole with a birdie four, but from here he struggled to kick on as he scored a final bogey five on the 16th, leaving him with a round of two-over 73 and a score of four-under overall.
