LUKE Williams and Ross Embleton will remain in place for Swindon Town’s final game of the season at Charlton Athletic this coming Sunday, the Adver understands.

Despite the club’s fate of playing in the bottom rung of the Football League being confirmed on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat to Scunthorpe United, no decision on the future of Town’s head coach and his assistant is expected to be made before the season is out.

The Adver understands that a meeting took place between Williams and chairman Lee Power in the wake of Saturday’s game at the County Ground.

However, no knee-jerk reaction was forthcoming, with Power understood to be taking the appropriate time before deciding the future of the club’s coaching staff.

Williams, who has until 2021 to run on his current contract having signed a five-year deal last March, was a reluctant recipient of the role at the time but, having enjoyed a successful stint as caretaker boss, winning six of his 10 games, the former Brighton & Hove Albion reserve and U21 coach was persuaded by Power to take the position full time.

However, Town went on to only win two of their remaining 12 games last season, and with just 12 wins this season, Williams has a win percentage of 21.9 per cent – the fourth worst record of permanent bosses in the modern era.

The campaign has been a difficult one for the 36-year-old, disrupted by the arrival of director of football Tim Sherwood before Christmas, but with no sign of him stepping down on his own accord, Williams will continue to take the club this week in training and be on the sidelines at the Valley.
