NORTH Wilts ladies march on in two of the main women’s team championship events, the Yetton Trophy and Vivienne Trophy, following more success last weekend.

They moved a step closer to emulating their 2008 Yetton Trophy national inter-club title winning success when thrashing top Dorset indoor side Moonfleet (Weymouth) in the sixth round (quarter-finals) of this season’s competition.

North Wilts sunk Moonfleet without trace winning by 36 shots as they ran out 85-49 victors to reach the semi-finals and book a last-four slot at City and County of Bristol IBC on Sunday, April 23 (10am) against Spalding.

The other semi-final will feature Arun (Bognor Regis) and St Noets (Cambs). The final will be played on that same Sunday at 3pm.

North Wilts were in impressive form despite a slow start against Moonfleet, winning on all four rinks.

The two home rinks skipped by Jean Collier (six shots) and Fizz Mace (two shots) both won but it was away in Weymouth where North Wilts blasted Moonfleet aside for a powerful victory.

The rink of Ann Roberts-Phare, Jane Taylor, Janet Hardie and skipped by Alex Jacobs racked up the shots winning by 23 in a massive 35-12 success while Sue Cooke’s rink were also victorious but by only five shots after being 8-0 down after five ends.

Across the board North Wilts ladies were slow to start and were 21-16 down overall after five ends but had recovered to lead 50-36 at 10.

Then they powered away to lead 75-49 at 15 and finally win 85-49 with Moonfleet conceding at home in Weymouth after only 15 ends.

Unlike the previous round in Surrey at Egham, when one of the away rinks (Alex Jacob’s foursome) car broke down en route and they only just made the time limit, everything was plain sailing this time.

North Wilts club’s ladies are also still running in the Vivienne Trophy - four rinks of triples - a competition for non-Yetton players and face Honiton in round four (last 16 ) today at 12.30pm - two triples at home in Westcroft and two away in Honiton.

In the previous round Honiton beat Devon rivals Isca (Exeter) 54-51.

North Wilts who reached the quarter-finals three years ago will be hoping to do the same again today and book a last eight spot.

The side today shows three changes to the one that beat MidGlos in early December 67-65. Marjorie Mandrysko comes in for Margaret Walker, Erona Carpenter returns at skip in place of June Northam while Iris Read takes Lyn Brown’s place.

TEAM

Home: Lorna Chadwick, June Coyle and Rosemary Fitpatrick (skip). Julie Underhill, Marjorie Mandrysko and Liz Ponting (skip).
