LOANEE Charlie Colkett is determined to make as big an impression as possible during his short stint at Swindon Town.

Midfielder Colkett agreed to spend the remainder of the season at the County Ground from Premier League leaders Chelsea earlier this month, with fellow Blues youngsters Fankaty Dabo and Islam Feruz also persuaded to swap Stamford Bridge for SN1 on a temporary basis.

Colkett is still relatively raw when it comes to competitive first-team action and he was only given his first taste of it while on another loan stint at Town’s League One and West Country rivals Bristol Rovers at the start of the season.

Despite his inexperience, Colkett displays talent and maturity beyond his 20 years and looks completely at home in the Town team. Alongside another new loan arrival, Ben Gladwin, he has added a real creative spark and much-needed guile to Swindon’s attacking play.

The England U20s international has had no problem adjusting to life on the training field at Swindon, although he knows the biggest impact he has to make is out on the pitch.

“Settling in has been fine and it has been an easy transition,” Colkett told Town’s official matchday programme ahead of their 1-0 defeat at home to Peterborough United on Saturday.

“The big win (at Bolton) last weekend definitely helped that and the lads have been good, so hopefully it can continue.

“For me, it is just about continuing to gain experience and match time, really – that’s what we’re all here for and that’s the main way you develop.

“I want to continue to make my own noise and you’ve got to make the most of a loan and show everyone what you’re about because you are under a microscope.”

Colkett, Dabo and Feruz have been thrown straight in at the deep end by the Town coaching staff and have been given spots in the starting XI for both of Swindon’s fixtures since their arrival.

The first of those came just three days after they joined the club and the trio went on to help Swindon claim a shock 2-1 win away at Bolton Wanderers on January 14.

Colkett says he and his Chelsea colleagues are grateful for their chance and have arrived in Wiltshire ready to respond to whatever is asked of them.

“Maybe some people were surprised that we were all involved from the start but we’re here to produce,” said Colkett, who will likely come up against his former loan club at the weekend when Town travel to take on Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

“It didn’t come as a surprise to us because we worked hard over the first two days and it was a great start.”
