THERE can be little doubt that Swindon Town have looked more of an attacking threat in the last fortnight than the majority of the season prior to that and it is in no small part down to the arrival of Ben Gladwin and Charlie Colkett.

The duo may have headed to Swindon for differing reasons, Gladwin to kick-start a career that was in danger of stalling, and Colkett to continue his rapid development into the professional ranks, but a player’s natural quality comes to the fore no matter how far they are down the road with their progression.

Both players showed their full bag of skilful trickery with nifty footwork against Peterborough United on Saturday and some of their killer passes left the press box in awe on multiple occasions.

The duo have given real panache to Town’s attacking game and there is a fizz about the team going forwards these days that should genuinely get the juices flowing amongst fans again.

However, the bare stats do not lie. As the home side, Town were out-shot by the Posh 15 to nine at the County Ground and not a single one of those home efforts was on target.

Swindon saw plenty of possession in their opponent’s final third but their unwillingness to shoot on occasion was more than a tad perplexing.

After a flowing move, a Swindon player would often find the ball at their feet in the Posh box but instead of having a crack at goal, they would move it on for another team-mate and the chance would inevitably break down after one pass too many.

Perhaps it is to do with the shortage of confidence given their lowly league position but Town need to be bolder and braver in front of goal.

It is a simple solution but if you never try, you will never know and it is impossible to completely unlock an opponent if you do not work their goalkeeper even once.
