JORDAN Smith recovered from a nightmare third round at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championships to finish with a flourish.

The 24-year-old from Derry Hill recorded a four-over-par 76 on Saturday which included a double-bogey seven on hole two, as well as dropping shots on three, four and five.

However, the Bowood pro managed to hit a birdie four on eight to pick up a shot to leave him two-under overall after the third day’s play.

Having broken into the world’s top 100 last weekend following his tied-third finish at the BMW SA Open, Smith was back in the swing of things this morning with a two-under round of 70.

The 2016 Challenge Tour winner picked up birdies on four, eight, 12 and 18 but he recorded bogey fives on the fifth and 17th holes to temper his score and leave him tied 39th overall – collecting € 14,656 for his efforts.

The result means that Smith is currently placed 16th in the early standings for the Race to Dubai, while he remains 93rd in the world.
