CALNE climbed into the top four of Dorset & Wilts Two North as they romped past hosts Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd 64-7 on Saturday.

Despite losing skipper Tom Morten to injury in the opening minutes and a couple of missed chances, number eight Alan Wicks got the scoring started as Calne drove the home side back across their own try line.

Full-back Mark Webber then went over for his first of the afternoon before Bassett hit back with their one, converted score.

But with Rhys Taylor turning in a man of the match display to touch down for a score, Calne were soon back on the front foot.

Adam Young broke through tackles for the next score and replacements Liam Kearney and Cameron Davies were also on the scoresheet.

Winger Jamie Palmer and flanker Chris McAlonan and Marcus Turner were also among the scorers.

Chairman Chris Austin said: "When you travel away you always expect a tough game and even though it was a big win for us, Bassett were competitive throughout.''
