SWINDON Wildcats player-coach Aaron Nell wants his side to be braver on the ice as they prepare to host Telford Tigers tonight.

Nell, who is ruled out of the season after surgery on a dislocated shoulder, thinks his team need to rediscover their grit if they are to claim a second successive win this evening.

The 27-year-old was forced to watch his team scrape a 6-5 overtime win over Sheffield Steeldogs last time out, with youngster Jordan Kelsall getting the winner.

The last time the Cats met Telford was at the end of November, with the Shropshire side coming out on top in a deflating 6-0 loss for the Wildcats.

This time around, Nell is looking for nothing less than a win as they welcome the Tigers to the Link Centre.

“We’ll work in training. We do not like Telford. I think last time, we took a step back from not liking them,” said the player-coach.

“Some people felt sorry for them but we do not like them. We haven’t liked them for the last three years.

“We are the only team which has been successful against Telford because we don’t like them and we need to get that determination, grit and balls back into our game “Having balls isn’t about hitting people or fighting. It is about going to certain areas of the ice like Jordan Kelsall does, and he scored the winner last week.”

The Tigers have suffered from financial difficulties this season, which has seen them release a number of players in order to balance the books.

One of the many players let go by Tom Watkins’ side was veteran forward Phil Hill, who has since arrived at the Link Centre.

The 34-year-old wasn’t offered a new contract with the current champions and joined Macauley Heywood, Ondrej Raszka, Michael Satek, Joe Miller and Dan Scott in leaving the club due to financial reconstruction.
