CHIPPENHAM Town raised more than £200 for injured Chesham United captain Bruce Wilson just days after he suffered a double leg-break at Hardenhuish Park.

The 32-year-old Chesham man faces a lengthy road to recovery after falling awkwardly while leaping for the ball in the second half of his team’s trip to the Bluebirds on Saturday.

Wilson had to be airlifted to Swindon’s Great Western Hospital by the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and last weekend’s match, which was goalless at the time the Generals defender sustained his horror injury, was abandoned by referee Neal Templey in the 46th minute.

But in a heart-warming show of goodwill, Chippenham raised £233 during their clash with Slough Town on Tuesday – that contest ended in a 3-3 draw – to aid Wilson’s rehabilitation.

The stricken player tweeted: “What an unbelievable gesture from @ChipTownFC. Huge thanks to everyone associated with the club and @sloughtownfc for the donations.”
