CLARRIE Dunbar recorded a fine treble last week in national team championship events to keep their unbeaten record intact, while Christie Miller men were successful in an Over 60s double rinks match.

Standerwick-based Clarrie defeated Nailsea B 48-31 in the ladies Mason Trophy, followed it up with a 71-62 victory over Clevedon in the ladies Yetton Trophy and ended the weekend with an emphatic 87-54 win against MidGlos in the mixed Egham Trophy.

Dunbar took the rink honours in both matches against Nailsea in the Mason Trophy, ladies O60s double rinks.

Jeanette Wheeler’s home four were in control throughout and won 26-15 but Teresa King’s quartet were down 15-13 at 15 ends before a late flurry saw them to an unlikely 22-16 success.

The treble in team events was completed in the space of 24 hours with a double in the top men’s and ladies inter-club championships.

In the delayed ladies Yetton Trophy third round tie, Clarrie beat Clevedon 71-62, winning on two of the four rinks, drawing on another and only losing on one.

Teresa King’s away rink and Marcia Hartley’s home quartet led recorded 21-8 and 21-12 wins respectively.

Meanwhile, Jeanette Wheeler’s home rink came from 7-0 down after five ends to draw 17-17. The only loss was a 25-12 reverse suffered by Ann Jones’ team.

Last season, Clarrie reached the semi-finals of the mixed Egham Trophy and they took another step towards at least emulating that as they thumped MidGlos 87-54 in a last 32 round three tie.

Clarrie took the honours on three of the four rinks, with Graham Shadwell’s foursome away at Brockworth (Gloucester) registering a 31-7 victory. At home at Standerwick, Russell Francis’ rink won 24-16.

n THE splendid unbeaten run enjoyed by Clarrie in six national team championship and competitions finally came to an end on Tuesday.

Still running in the ladies Mason and Yetton Trophies, men’s Denny Cup and the mixed Egham Trophy and Top Club, Clarrie were beaten for the first time in a team event this season.

They went down in the men’s Over 60 inter-club double rink competition, losing on both the home and away rinks to Bristol 37-30.

n CHRISTIE Miller are still running in the men’s Over 60 inter-club double rinks national competition and recorded a 43-33 win over Nailsea in round two on Tuesday.

Miller took the honours on both rinks, with John Bailey, Bob Pratt, John Crowder and skip Dave Laws winning 23-19 at home in Melksham.

Meanwhile, away in Nailsea, Chris Easton, Malcolm Hole, Colin Little and Nigel Price took the plaudits 20-14.
