THE storming start to the National Challenge South West North Two season for Devizes Ladies continues unabated after they put Gordano to the sword 45-0 on Sunday.

Devizes have yet to concede even a point in their four matches so far and cruised to victory over their rivals.

The home side took the lead when Denise Warbutton fed the ball to Emma Matthews to crash over.

Warbutton converted and was then involved in the second try when a kick through was chased down by the hard-working Georgia Walker, who felled the Gordano full-back then dotted down the ball for the try, Warbutton again converting.

Devizes hooker Sophie Scratchley then won a scrum against the head and the ball was shipped to the back line for Candice Walters to score her first of the game, converted by Warbutton.

In the second half, a break off the scrum by Siobhan Spiers led to her touching down in the corner, followed by a scintillating try by Emily Pratt who fielded the kick off and ran 70 metres under the posts.

The next try came from a break by Fay A’Bear, who showed classy hands to offload to the supporting Walters who crashed over in the corner.

The scoring was rounded off by second row Spiers who broke through the defence and sprinted 40 metres.

The ladies and girls section at Devizes host pitch up and play event for female players of all abilities (aged 13+) on Sunday (October 23, 10am-12.30pm).
