THE second cluster of rugby matches to aid disadvantaged youngsters throughout Wiltshire, held at Royal Wootton Bassett RFC was boosted by the arrival of a couple of All Blacks.

Jeremy Thrush and Tom Marshall attended the event last Friday evening, which involved U9 teams from the host club Marlborough RFC, Swindon RFC and Supermarine RFC.

Thrush has been capped 11 times by New Zealand, having started his career with New Zealand side Hutt Valley High School.

A former captain of the Super Rugby franchise the Hurricanes, he scored nine times in 95 appearances and in 2004 joined Wales’ Gavin Henson as a Young Player of the Year.

Marshall, who capped the All Blacks U20 teams, was a member of the World Cup squad in 2010.

He played in New Zealand for Tasman Makos on 43 occasions and in Super Rugby for the Crusaders and Chiefs.

In total some 432 Wiltshire youngsters have taken up the gauntlet of playing floodlit rugby matches to raise money for the disadvantaged and disabled, with matches being staged until late November.
