SEVERAL of Swindon Town’s fringe players could be allowed to leave the club on loan should they be successful in their transfer deadline day recruitment drive today, according to head coach Luke Williams.

On Saturday, the Town boss revealed there was a ‘strong possibility’ of more new faces arriving at the County Ground before the transfer window closes at 11pm this evening.

Should that prove to be the case, then it will open the possibility for current members of the squad to go elsewhere on a temporary basis in an effort to get them more game time.

Williams told BBC Wiltshire: “I think any player that is not going to be realistically involved heavily in the first-team squad, we need to try to have a contingency for them to make sure that they play football.

“It’s a frustrating life for a footballer to not be involved for a long period, so we have to make sure that we balance up once we know where we are.

“If people come in, of course that has a knock-on effect, and if people don’t come in, then we can make plans for this period until the next window.”

However, Williams insisted that any potential loan does not spell the end for that player at Town, with the deals working in the best interests of all parties.

“I have got a responsibility that when players are ready to play week in, week out; if they can’t be in the squad at least and have a fighting chance of playing, that there is a potential for them to go and play somewhere where they are more likely to be first choice,” added Williams.

“That’s not to say that their future is over at Swindon, it’s a case of we can look at the players who are playing week in, week out for us but we can also look at players playing for somebody else.

“It gives you opportunity for someone to impress us and for us to consider their future.

“Miles Storey went on loan and did so well and in the end we decided it was best to let him go.”

l Town will take a team to Royal Wootton Bassett on Monday to play the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground side in a friendly (7.30pm).

Admission is £6 adults and £3 concessions. Members of Bassett’s youth section can gain free entry provided they wear club tracksuit, shower jacket or kit.
