THE rain may have been a pain on Saturday, but it has ensured that the Wiltshire League crown will be decided in a winner takes all clash this weekend.

Royal Wootton Bassett, who have been pipped to the title for the past two seasons, head into the final game of the campaign with a nine-point lead over second-placed Bear Flat, who travel to the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground on Saturday.

Bear Flat set up the enthralling finale following their five-wicket success over Beckington, who were bowled out for 112.

In the only other game to reach a conclusion in Division One, Corsham 2nd returned home from Hinton Charterhouse with a 60-run success after Andy Davis’ 59 helped them post 231-6 before bowling their hosts out for 171.

Division Two

Winsley took advantage of Avebury’s abandoned match to close the gap at the top to just two points going into the final round of matches on Saturday.

After being restricted to 198-7 by Warminster 2nd, Winsley then bowled out their hosts for 128.

Winsley entertain Swindon United Churches this weekend, while Avebury host Swindon Nalgo.

Division Three

Swindon A suffered a 41-run defeat at Bath Hospitals after being bowled out for 136, chasing 178.

Division Four

Chippenham 2nd require one more point to take the title ahead of their Goatacre counterparts, with both sides seeing their games abandoned.

In the two games that managed to go ahead, Spye Park defeated Wanborough by 29 runs and Corsham 3rd claimed a two-wicket success over All Cannings.

Division Five

Chippenham 3rd are in pole position to be crowned champions after their 166-run success at Bathford saw them open up a 20-point lead over Combe Down, who won their game at Beckington 2nd by forfeit.

Meanwhile, Nationwide House 2nd claimed an eight-wicket win at Biddestone 3rd after dismissing their hosts for 119.

Division Six

Burbage and Easton Royal 3rd have taken the title despite not having a fixture at the weekend.

The newly crowned champions were scheduled to face Beanacre and Melksham 2nd, who pulled out of the league at the start of the season, while second-placed Royal Wootton Bassett 3rd saw their match at Swindon B washed out.

While Burbage, who host Heytesbury & Sutton Veny 2nd this weekend, only hold a nine-point lead at the summit, they take the title as Bassett are without a fixture because they were due to face Beanacre.

Elsewhere, Bradford on Avon 2nd defeated Hinton Charterhouse by 34 runs, Heytesbury claimed a three-wicket success over Potterne 4th and Corsham 4th were two-wicket winners at Lansdown 3rd.

Division Seven

Burbage 2nd go into the final weekend of the season with a 12-point lead at the top following their five-wicket win at Trowbridge 2nd and will host Marshfield 2nd on Saturday as they look to emulate their third team.

Division Eight

Highworth, who were Division Seven champions last season, have won back-to-back titles in the Wiltshire League after Saturday’s abandonment saw them take an unassailable 27-point lead over Lacock 2nd, who were without a fixture.

In the only game to go ahead in the division, Box 2nd defeated Spye Park 2nd by 29 runs.

Division Nine

Winsley 3rd claimed a 71-run win over Bathford 2nd in the only game to take place in the division.
