CHAIRMAN Lee Power says he is unsure at this stage whether he will let any of Swindon Town’s fringe players out on loan before the transfer window shuts next week.

Town have brought in five players since the eve of the opening game of the season to help bolster what was looking like a paper-thin squad.

However, with players returning from injury and Power still keeping tabs on two more potential arrivals, there could be chances for some of Swindon’s younger charges to get some much much-needed game time.

Jermaine Hylton will be one considered for a loan spell, with Jonathan Obika, Luke Norris, Nathan Delfouneso and now Jordan Stewart ahead of him in the pecking order up top.

Tom Smith could also benefit from a spell on loan as he continues to push for a regular place in a congested Town midfield but Power will wait to see how the next week pans out with incomings before making a decision on that.

“I think we will look at it next week to see what happens,” Power told BBC Wiltshire.

“One minute you are full strength and the next, you lose four and you are struggling again. That is just the nature of this league.

“I think the way the loan system has changed; it has made you carry an extra three or four players because obviously, you can’t bring anyone else in after this window closes until January.

“We’ll probably keep more meat on the bone than shave it off and have one less.”

Town were heavily linked with a move for former Southampton defender Jordan Turnbull, who has had two loan spells at the County Ground, before he signed a three-year deal with Coventry City.

While Power admitted that they had looked at bringing the central defender, who hails from Trowbridge, back to Swindon, the deal was not right for Swindon to benefit from.

“To be fair to Jordan, he had been here twice, Southampton were looking for a big, big sell-on,” he added.

“Once you added up the wages and if we did improve him and sold him, we would have had to give more or less half of it back to them.

“It just didn’t seem financially the right thing to do and we had cover in those areas.

“Jordan is a great player who did great things for us. The deal just didn’t fit at the time.”
